Recollections of voyages of Alexander Longmuir, first as crew member and later as captain. Commences in 1836 - voyages from England to Australia, Cuba and others. Ships include Jane Boyd, Lion, Mayflower and Gazelle. On Gazelle he stayed in Australia - as a coastal trader and coal carrier from Newcastle. Detailed description of life on board - in particular problems among crew members, such as illness, drunkenness and shortage of food. He also describes life on shore, including life in Sydney in 1836.
